Myanmar Flood Response
Provide the resources needed to help them recover.

Flooding and landslides affected more than 1,000,000 people in Myanmar in 2015. Heavy monsoon rains  cut off entire communities from relief, as high waters and damaged roads made access very difficult. Heavy rains are typical in monsoon season, but particularly strong rainfall from Cyclone Komen added to the damage. Continuous downpour washed away bridges and roads, destroyed schools, and left thousands of people homeless and struggling to find shelter. Many took refuge in Buddhist monasteries, facing an uncertain fate.

Donations to the Hilton Responds Fund supported organizations on the ground providing immediate relief to those impacted. Immediate Relief efforts included:

  • Distributing water and hygiene kits to families and villages in the hardest hit areas
  • Supplying affected mothers, people living with disabilities and the elderly with food packages and potable water/water purification tablets
  • Distributing urgent non-food items to affected families, such as mosquito nets, mats, cooking equipment, candles, torches, and batteries
  • Rebuilding homes/shelters

Early recovery activities included:

  • Rebuilding homes/shelters
  • Provision of seeds/agriculture inputs
  • Reconstructing small-scale infrastructure
  • Establishing Women’s Centers

Voluntary donations to the Myanmar Flood Response Fund were used to deliver lifesaving relief to survivors and provide the resources needed to help them recover. Thank you for your compassion and generosity.
